Kenya's yu Selects TransferTo For Operating International Airtime Transfer Service

TransferTo, a leading provider of international airtime transfer services, and Essar Telecom Kenya Limited, one of Kenya's major mobile network operators, today announced a partnership to allow Kenyans living abroad to send top-ups to the yu prepaid phones of their relatives and friends back home in Kenya.

By joining the TransferTo Airtime Transfer Network, yu allows any Kenyan residing in the United Kingdom, South Africa, the USA and in many other countries to send an instant prepaid top-up to a relative or friend in Kenya provided he is a yu prepaid customer.

The airtime transfers can be performed easily through TransferTo's multi-channel distribution network, which includes mobile operators, point of sale retailers, as well as a number of partner internet portals including its own online top-up service, www.transferto.com where yu top ups will soon be available. All transactions are secure and processed in real-time.

"The partnership with yu is a new demonstration of our commitment to continue and accelerate the deployment of our international airtime transfer network in Africa and Kenya in particular," said Eric Barbier, TransferTo Founder and CEO. He highlighted: "this new service will give Kenyans living abroad a great way to efficiently and conveniently complement regular money remittances ... in the form of prepaid airtime, a valued gift in Kenya"

"We are excited about this partnership because it is a delivery of our promise to provide innovative services to our customers. We will continue to ensure that our offers are affordable and relevant to all yu subscribers," added Atul Chaturvedi, Country Manager, Essar Telecom Kenya. This launch comes shortly after yu announced partnership with ForgetMeNot Africa to offer access to email and online chat on standard SMS-capable mobile phones.
