Airtel Nigeria Announces International Airtime Transfer Services

Airtime Transfer service will enable Nigerians abroad to send airtime to family & friends in Nigeria International prepaid recharge complements cash remittances

Leading telecommunications services provider, Airtel Nigeria has sealed a pact with TransferTo, a leading provider of international airtime remittance services, to launch Airtel Nigeria International Airtime Transfer service.

Airtel's International Airtime Transfer service will enable Nigerians living abroad to send airtime to their family and friends in Nigeria via prepaid top-ups. International prepaid recharge complements cash remittances.

With the new service, a Nigerian living in Johannesburg for example, can now recharge the Airtel prepaid phone of his uncle in Kano.

All transfers to Airtel prepaid customers are performed in real-time and available through multiple channels such as POS to Phone; Phone to Phone and Web to Phone.

Eric Barbier, TransferTo CEO, said he "strongly believes that enabling Airtime Remittance services to Airtel customers will greatly benefit both Nigerians living abroad and their loved ones in Nigeria."

He added that "TransferTo is very proud of working jointly with Airtel Nigeria, a major player in the region, to introduce a new and innovative service in Nigeria that will meet the people's needs."

Chief Operating Office of Airtel Nigeria, Deepak Srivastava said the partnership with TransferTo underscores the company's commitment to continually delight its customers as well as create innovative and affordable platforms to meet the daily needs of telecoms consumers wherever they are.

He also noted that the service offering will empower Airtel customers in Nigeria with an additional platform to boost their personal and business relationships with friends and business associates in the Diaspora.

Airtel Nigeria's International Airtime Transfer service is available at www.transferto.com with payments possible in over 250,000 POS across Britain, Germany, Netherlands, South Africa, Ireland, Europe, Australia and Canada.

The service will also be offered in other regions such as the USA and the Gulf countries (Kuwait, KSA, Qatar, UAE) through TransferTo distribution partners including POS retailers and partner Mobile Network Operators offering Phone to Phone airtime transfer services.

According to a report, a high number of Nigerian nationals live, work, and travel abroad and significantly contribute to the development of their country by supporting their relatives in the form of remittances. Research also indicates that while existing money transfer solutions are efficient, Nigerian expatriate communities lack an appropriate solution for the transfer of small amounts of value.
